Original Title: PERC Raid Help. First I thought I read that PERC could not be flashed to IT mode. However, as I understood things, IT mode was the same as HBA mode. Thus, what I read was untrue and no issue b/c HBA mode is desired home servers. I have H710Ps & 810Ps, but the H710P is whats needed for my build. How?

So my understanding is that IT Mode/HBA mode are essentially equivalent allowing the disks pass through to the OS where they can be used for storage however the user likes; standalone or in a (software) RAID configuration. Apparently, letting the cards handle RAID through their own hardware has become undesirable and/because of its slow. Please correct me if I’m wrong here.

I saw posts saying people got scammed downloading what the though was the right file to flash their perc cards to it/hba mode but it was really a bit con miner or something.

So how does one actually do that?

I found for the next gen of cards (Series 9) very simple instructions on Dell’s website where you just change from RAID > HBA or vice versa in BIOS. I will check that out in a minute and see if the same for my cards maybe but even if it were I’m still unsure if HBA is equivalent to IT mode.

FYI I am trying to build a home server. I guess I only really need one H710P card because I have two (1x4) cables for it and the system will have 8HDDs for the main storage and some SSDs I can connect directly to SATA ports on the board.
