A Missouri high school teacher has been placed on leave after officials discovered that she was performing on a pornography website to supplement her salary. And while she says her teaching days are probably over, she acknowledges that she knew the risks.

            Best thing we can do to help the children is to pay teachers substantially more. Until then, things like this will keep happening.

                Sadly, the low pay for teachers is pretty pervasive across the entire US. My first teaching job paid $36k per year in Wisconsin in 2013. Luckily, rent wasn’t quite so expensive back then, but it’s still an outrageously low income for what is expected from teachers. I don’t know a single teacher who either doesn’t have a second job or a spouse that makes quite a bit of money.

            In some ways, I do think you are right.

            If everyone saw the president doing porn I imagine that would impact how people engaged with him politically.

            That being said, I do feel like you are treating the symptom and not the source.

            Teachers are not using work like porn for freedom of expression, they are doing it to put a roof over their heads. It’s meant to supplement income that is not part of their primary source: Teaching.

            So long as we pay teachers a poverty level, I don’t think we can debate the morality of survival. Or punish them for the inaction of politicians.

    She was making 42K a year as a teacher and 8-10K a month on OF before she got a boost in subscribers from being exposed.

    I think she’ll be fine financially.

      For now, yes. Porn Business has declining earnings when the actor/actress gets older though…

        Yes. She has to plan for a lifetime of income over about 10 years. Taking that into account the earnings from OnlyFans are not that large at all.

    I do wonder what stories like this portend for the future of education…. Most starting teachers are young women and pay is abysmal, but many young women can be much more successful On sites like onlyFans. As that loses its stigma, teaching will find its strongest demographic looking elsewhere, so what do you do.
