Good for them, it’s wild that the people actually making the products happen with all the technical expertise don’t have any say in how the company is run.
This is one of those cases where the developers are the sole reason the company is even able to exist, and they’re still treated like dirt.
It’s kind of a paradox that gifted coders, designers that made the Witcher series were forced to squeeze out cyberpunk before it was ready. And then take the backlash. Just like animator’s hired by marvel.
Yeah the amount of dev hate in general is wild, it was especially crazy for CDPR and cyberpunk. It’s idiotic how many people don’t realize that it’s execs who make decisions on release dates and cutting features, not the devs who are working on the game
Unions don’t stop layoffs, but this is still a strong move and probably the most likely to succeed. Cdpr needs to find new income now that they don’t have a game on the horizon, so they need devs to produce.
Literally, the power is in the devs’ hands here. cdprs only option is to either work with the union or lay them all off and then not release any new products and go bankrupt.
Hopefully, it spreads to more European countries and becomes normal business for games to be made with unions in Europe
Enshittification needs to be named word of the year.
