Who came up with these times? Even the FPs are pretty late for a lot of North and South America.

The course is expected to be fast, so fans will have a lot of passing to look forward to

I see the writer is new to Formula 1

Another race in the US. Usually those have good times. Oh, at night, still not terrible. Midnight!? Well, at least Australia will enjoy the race at a convenient time.

Gotta get it cool enough the cars don’t melt so needs to be night, and it just so happens that middle of the night is when Vegas’s iconic neon light show looks its best as well but I’m sure that’s just a coincidence

It’d be cool enough during the day. Today is a high of 67°F (19C). There’s no worry of anything melting.

It’s also dark at 5pm, but they’re waiting until 10pm for the race. It looks no different at 5 than it does at 10

The average high this time of year is just below 70 F / ~20C. The nighttime temperature is closer to winter testing than any races. Sunset is around 4:30PM local (1230 UTC) so an evening or early night race would still get the lights. I think part of the reason for the time is getting the strip to agree to close.

I’ll watch this the next morning and I’m on the west coast where it’s only at 10pm

I don’t understand this. The Eurocentric assholes are going to point to this race and say “America isn’t interested in F1” despite it being in the middle of the night. None of us are going to watch it because it’s at such a terrible time for us to save the Europeans.

These times aren’t exactly wonderful for Europe either tho. I don’t know about you, but I’m not watching a race at 7 in the morning on a Sunday. I’ll just watch it when I wake up, same as some Americans will

That’s every race for most of us in America. So forgive me if there’s 0 sympathy. We’re getting screwed over so it can be later in the morning for you.

I’m not asking for your sympathy, I don’t mind. I’m merely stating that the time was not chosen for eurocentric reasons. It probably has to do with showing Vegas at night so it looks nicer and not interfering with the locals too much in terms of traffic.

They could show Vegas at night 4-6 hours earlier. The only reason they’re not doing it that way is so it won’t be overnight for europe.

For us (or for everyone actually) it’s like a race in Japan.

I know it’s ridiculous for US-Americans to have a race on home soil happening at a stupid point in time and I totally get the anger.

I dunno, probably not a good idea to host a race during the day in a desert. Probably don’t want the tires melting or something stupid like that, but of course it’s stupid euros ruining everything.

During the day wouldn’t be ideal either, but it’s dark at 5pm there. If they wanted it for the lights they could run it in the dark 4-5 hours earlier when the US could watch, but that would then make it an inconvenient time for the european viewers, which have clearly been made the priority

Edit: Also the temperatures aren’t a concern. It’ll be 20C air temp high this week. There’s no heat concerns, and anyone who’s saying there is has no idea what they’re talking about.

This is almost breaking rule 1: “Be respectful to everyone; drivers, lemmings, redditors etc”.

In the future please refrain from calling a part of the fan base assholes even if they might be (if they are just click the report button). We’d like to have a friendly community :)

If we’re policing speech that much like they did in the old subreddit I’ll likely just no longer engage with the community.

There are absolutely assholes who constantly mock anything American, and I’m going to continue to call them assholes for it. Every Reddit thread is full of them.
