They can’t dominate with Xbox so they pivot to this. Just like when Windows’s hammerlock on personal computing started faltering (mainly due to mobile, on which they fumbled the ball) they pivoted to “We <3 open source!”

They’re gonna embrace, extend, and extinguish gaming on other platforms.

Honestly I d rather Microsoft pulled a Sega and left the console market to focus on games and gamepads.

It’s no secret that Microsoft wanted Game Pass on Playstation.

Sony refused. So this discussion is literally irrelevant

They need more subscribers. Period. They cannot afford to support all of the AAA studios they have purchased, with the amount of subscribers they have now. Starfield most likely didnt bring in enough new subscribers, and Xbox gamers make it frequently known they will not buy games. Their only chance, is to gain subscribers from other consoles. Its been assumed for a while now, that gamepass is most likely not profitable. If you look at what they spend to bring outside games to the service, theres almost no way it can be. Now add in all of the acti studios they have to pay for.

here I laugh while watching consoles companies struggle to realize the problem is the consoles/companies themselves. Why are we the people paying $400-$700 and getting cheap ass gimmick consoles that have no good exclusives left because they either cancelled all the future games or bought the companies and then liquidated anything worth money.

I hate PlayStation, Microsoft and Nintendo equally nowadays simply because they constantly ignore the people who keep them in business which is all of us.

I’m not sure if they’re talking about making the cloud version available or actually releasing native games on PlayStation and Nintendo consoles. The latter would be a hell of a shift, considering they killed a PS version of Starfield. The former is something they’ve talked about for years.

Sony and Nintendo certainly won’t allow Game Pass in their game consoles now.

But with games becoming more and more digital (some games not even have physical releases anymore) I think it’s mandatory to end walled gardens in game consoles, the same way the EU is aiming to do right now with the App Store.

The only way Sony and Nintendo agree to this is if Microsoft kills off Xbox consoles. Which isn’t outside of realm of possibility considering how poor the sales are.

I think it’s their plan B if 2028. next gen console fails and Cloud fails to gain expected traction.

Besides they now own so many AAA studios that it would be an incredibly lucrative business.
