On X, Hartmann Capital’s Metaverse analyst JP Minetos announced the partnership. He says that PC VR ports such as Half-Life 2: VR Mod have been downloaded more than 10 million times and points to the success of the standalone VR port of Resident Evil 4, which has become one of the most popular Quest games.

“Flat2VR carries a team of seasoned VR experts, deeply entrenched in the industry. With a wealth of experience and a keen understanding of building native-feeling VR experiences, Flat2VRstudios is the best team for the job,” writes Minetos.

Yeah this is needed on PSVR2 and PC. Useless for Meta.

On the contrary, currently they’re a competitor that meta since PCVR is in this field. Meta acquisition means that future VR ports would permanently stay on meta’s platform and nowhere else.

There is definitely a financial incentive from meta to reign in independent expansion of this endeavor

These tools would do nothing to port games from PC or PSVR2 to quest. They are only for adding motion controls and rendering in stereoscopic 3d, not for changing the CPU and GPU architecture and reoptimizing for a much less powerful system. So they wouldn’t be of much use to Meta anyway for anything other than blocking the other platforms.
