Been super busy with life, but finally got back to cutting. This is the second of four chrome diopside stones I’m cutting.
Nice.
If you don’t mind me asking, what is the go-to place for faceting tools, and what are the unique handy things you use in other DIY/Maker type projects from time to time?
Like I have an ultra thin diamond blade originally for rough cutting gem stones that I use for precisely cutting printed circuit boards, and use dental picks, surgical scalpels, and acupuncture needles as circuit probes. I have a deep experimental curiosity when it comes to building fundamental components that most people never bother with, so stuff like precisely lapping a chip to remove the epoxy packaging and then precisely removing layers one at a time is very interesting to me.
That grasping tool pictured looks interesting, but I am most curious about how you achieve the repeatable work holding, alignment, and measurement.
This is interesting… I would not have considered using some of the tools of the trade for the purposes you have outlined.
You can see and read about some of the equipment I use in this post. I did a whole series of posts around how I cut stones.
In terms of equipment, there is a pinned post in this community that has some links as well.
Happy to answer any questions you might have.
Very beautiful! Is this for sale anywhere?
Nope, this stone and its siblings were given to me to cut.
