And he’s off. The race starts now, but can the government hold it together?

I’m sure they’ll style it a social democrat, but almost certainly yes. May well be Swinney as caretaker until contest is done even. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Kate Forbes take over, then ask Holyrood for an early election to see if she get a mandate. We just had a Muslim, so I can’t see her Christianity interfering - and she’s likely to lead a minority government anyway

Humza was very explicit in wanting to continue with the progressive slanted agenda. Forbes can’t even commit to sounding like a centrist. She absolutely will lead with her right wing interpretation of Christianity.

Humza has resigned. The party will now decide. With plenty of conservatives (small c) in Alba, and the more radical left in SGP, whoever wins will be the moderate of the party - whatever that looks like. My money is on her saying her more fundamentalist views will be whip free and up to each MSP

No chance. The greens are in the driving seat here, and they’ve made it very clear what kind of person their support depends on.

Technically speaking, the VONC is still on the table since he’s remaining in post until a successor is appointed. It’s going to be a long week in Holyrood.

SGP unlikely to bring down the government now. Will wait for next leader I suspect

I think the VONC only brings down Humza, SNP would then have 28 days to find a new leader or force an election

There are (were?) 2 VONCs - one in him personally (more likely to pass, but doesn’t make it obligatory for him to go, though he would have anyway) and one in the government itself (less likely to pass, since the Greens look to be ready to work with whoever replaces HY, but that one would definitely oust the government if it did pass).
