    Whoa, whoa, whoa!

Are you telling me that if we support autocratic ethnonationalist strongmen who target minorities and political opponents with violence… … it might hurt an American??? /s

I didn’t read this article. What the hell? He’s doing all this shit out in the open. It’s not a darker side, it’s just his front-facing side.

I know it’s just the the internet but I remember when this guy was first elected this was the direction Indians commenting on politics feared. He’s always been a populist authoritarian. Crazy how far his reach is though.

Modhi should have been smart like KSM and lured the guy to an embassy in another country that doesn’t care so much about the sounds of bone saws and screaming.

Turkey was quite upset with Saudi Arabia using an embassy as a torture and murder chamber. But they are not the kind of people to outright attack an embassy.

Also the US, EU and Israel continued to back Saudi Arabia and exerted pressure in the region, at a time where Turkey was still struggling with how to handle the fallout from the Syrian civil war. Aside from some token talks and minor threats of sanctions Saudi Arabia faced no repercussions. Now 6 years later under the same ruler they are hailed as a partner of “stability in the region” and sold all sorts of weapons to, as well as getting continued support from western companies for supressing dissenting voices.

When my office was moving back in 2016 they hired some young guys in a tuck to help who were all from India. They were in their early 20s, good but not perfect English, and worked a tough job all day.

I asked them what they thought of Modi and they were all very supportive of him. They said the rich people hated him but the working class people thought he was a hero.

Few years later I get hired at a computer company that’s solely owned and operated by a very rich and affluent Indian woman. I listened her talk to a new hire who was also Indian and she asked if he supported Modi, yes he nodded, “good, good” she said.

So both rich and poor Indians think Modi hangs the moon. What’s the common denominator?

A hatred and fear of Muslims.
