More than a fifth of people worldwide between the ages of 15 and 24 years old – 21.7% – were considered NEETs in 2023, according to the International Labour Organization.

Finances are another common issue. The cost of education is prohibitive for some young people, and for others who do complete education or training, the high cost of living in the cities where job opportunities exist can keep them out of the labor market.

NEET is an abbreviation for Not in Education, Employment, or Training: used by the government to describe a young person who is no longer in school and does not have a job or is not training to do a job

I’ve heard there’s a lot of fake job postings out there. I cannot confirm this, but it would make sense in these cynical times that some slimy businesses would post them to make it look like they are growing/thriving when they have zero intention of filling those positions. They don’t care that they are wasting people’s time with that bullshit.

Worse, I’ve heard some of them use the interview tests to get free work out of applicants. Depends on the job type, obviously.

Maybe these places need an acronym, too. How about POOP: Posts Odious Online Positions. OK, I got nothin’. But I’m sure someone can do better.

I haven’t been able to provably say whether I’ve seen any that there was any position I’ve applied to that didn’t exist to begin with.

I have personally encountered several times when open positions remain where the desired candidate was already chosen several weeks ago, and I only knew because I knew someone at the company, there was zero indication of that on the posting itself.

This means social unrest and populism will rise, extremists will have an easy time bringing them to their sides, and nothing proactive will be done, still.
