Anyone else have trouble with these GE dishwashing machines?
Mine cleans dishes well enough, but the gaskets leak easier than any other dishwasher I’ve ever had. I replaced the gaskets a few months ago, but if a little bit of debris builds up then it’s leaking again. Also, the racks are badly corroded, but the machine is only maybe five years old. Anyway, it’s just kind of funny that my aunt is coming over tomorrow and the last time she was here she noticed the dishwasher was leaking.
Installed appliances for a few years out of high school. GE is right up there with Electrolux as the worst of the worst.
GE was acquired by Chinese company “Haier Group” and is still “made in America”. Electrolux is made in Finland and has brands such as fridgidair.
Both are cheap and made to be disposable, on some of the Electrolux units, the drain hose was directly attached and I had every single one split apart when they were installed in a new development.
My opinion, Bosch, Whirlpool, and Miele are the best dishwashers in the industry.
I always had good luck with kenmore fridges and dishwashers, but they use other manufacturers including whirlpool, GE, and Frigidair, so YMMV.
Damn, just spent $5k on a GE fridge. Went with GE because our last one was GE and was 20+ years old. Turns out that was essentially a different company.
In our old house we had a wonderful Kenmore refrigerator that was actually manufactured by LG.
My Electrolux dishwasher caught on fire because the plastic covering broke twice even after we replaced it, causing water to leak inside and short circuit the thing.
Sorry, can’t say I have any experience with them.
I’ve had really good luck with Bosch dishwashers. Maybe just random luck but they seem to do well.
Second you on Bosch. Only dishwasher that I’ve had no problems with, and even plastic caught in the drain tube was easily diagnosed and removed, which has been the only problem I’ve had with it. I’d rather get abused Bosch than a new dishwasher of any other brand, really

When we bought our house it had a Bosch dishwasher. It started leaking after it was just 3 years old. The leak started where the plastic bottom piece joins the aluminium top piece. The rubber gasket became dirty and water was able to escape. Every brand has these types of cheap dishwasher. So next time you buy a dishwasher pick a more expensive model that has a ‘unibody’ design.
Ours leaked, found a loose bit that let water in. Mine is running now, so no pics, but with the door open, there is a round filter looking thing in the bottom left. Make sure it is screwed tight. Not sure what it does, but if it’s loose, water gets between the door and the insulation soaks it up to leak later
Sounds like you live in a place with very hard water and you’re having problems with mineral deposits.
If so, try dishwater salt (not table salt) or vinegar.
I would be wary of using vinegar. The hard water deposits had sealed the electronics enclosure after the gasket started leaking in my dishwasher, after I ran a cycle with vinegar it shorted out.
Ive heard a lot of negativity with regards to GE appliances in general. Specifically their washing machines.
They are more expensive but buy a Miele and never worry again. I love mine.
Miele is just a great brand, but not readily available in the US.
I have the Complete C3 vacuum when I moved ti belgium and it is the single best vacuum I have ever owned. My mom in America had even had very nice, $600 vacuums and they always suck ass after a few years. The parents of my girlfriend have had a Miele for years and still going strong.
Our washing machine is a 2nd hand Miele we got for 100€. That thing, while not huge, is so well built and I am super happy with it even if the model we found doesn’t have delay start
There is an independent appliance dealer in almost every area of the US. Miele may not be sold in box stores, but there is almost certainly a dealer that will deliver to and service your area.
Yep, for dishwashers Miele are the best, and Bosch are best value
That’s one butt ugly floor you got there
It’s a little bit old and worn out, but I still like it.
I’ve got one. It hasn’t failed, but it sucks. Runs for hours, but doesn’t clean very well.
I buy the nice dishwasher pods and always run on heavy mode with temperature boost. It gets the dishes clean, but I’m wondering if it’s causing extra wear and tear, especially to the racks.
Sometimes I open it after and the pod is half dissolved 😡
Whenever this happened to me I’m pretty sure that a utensil was blocking the detergent door from opening.
