We have a pair of Ring-Necked Pheasants in my neighbourhood and they tend to be pretty secretive. You only sometimes see them running around on the fields and it’s always a delight! I have started calling them “fancy chickens” 😅

They’re not actually native to Germany but were brought here from Asia a long while ago. They were bred, let go and subsequently hunted as a sport. Nowadays, hunting them isn’t really common anymore, so they have begun becoming so common that most people wouldn’t think they weren’t native to here.

Suicidal chickens. See plenty of them standing at the roadside in the UK, their favourite pastime is running into traffic.

Beautiful creatures but it’s so tense driving past them!

Lucky! I’d love to see those! Report it on eBird if you haven’t already! Citizen science!

Thanks! Yes it’s my shot, I photograph birds as a hobby :-) I took this a few weeks ago with my old setup, my Canon 70D and a Tamron 150-600 mm lens. I upgraded to an R10 now. The location is Bielefeld, Germany.

And they are indeed beautiful. The females are really difficult to spot, though. They look just like the ground! Good camouflage.
