@shreddy_scientist @Sundial There seems to be absolutely no red line at this point. Maybe it’s a good thing, they start bombing the UN then they become an enemy combatant and the rest of the world can go take care of the problem.

But if the UN defends themselves against Israel then Israel will acquire the right to defend themselves against the UN.

Up there with Macron telling Netanyahu to remember that Israel only exists because the UN decided that it should. I dont like Macron and its still just talk, but its a step in the right direction.

Neither UNIFIL nor U.N. Headquarters in New York have publicly reiterated that the peacekeepers can shoot back at the Israelis if they are attacked.

This is a nothinburger. Of course they can, in theory. But they won’t, and they’re not even hinting they might. It’s just an article of wishful thinking and what legally is written in their charter. But reality is a different deal.

Of course they are “allowed to”, which is kind of a ridiculous notion in war in the first place.
But they’re in a complex enclosed by land that will soon be under full control of Israeli forces.
All info getting out will go through Israeli channels.
Independent observers won’t be let anywhere close.
And when the peacekeepers end up disappearing, the west will strongly urge Israel to conduct an investigation into the matter.
While delivering another shipload of weapons and a cheque over $10B.
