What took them so long?
Ms love legacy backwards compatibility. But now that 365 has been around for a decade and you get word free with any Hotmail or live email address there is no need for wordpad.

Wait, really? Or do you just mean that a hotmail email writing space has all the same functionality as word?
I’ll personally be sad to see WP go, I use it a lot because I don’t want MS Office janking up my machine, and the free alts also seem to use a bewildering amount of my PCs power.
If you log into a Hotmail or Live account you can press the 9 dots in the top left and open word in your browser
