House Speaker Kevin McCarthy privately delivered a message to Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell this week: The Senate’s bipartisan bill to keep the government open wouldn’t get a vote in his chamber unless significant changes are made.

And then when the speaker appeared before his conference on Wednesday morning, McCarthy relayed that same message and later made clear he wouldn’t put the Senate bill on the House floor, underscoring the divide between the two most powerful Republicans in Washington at a pivotal moment for the country and their party.

With just days left until government funding runs dry, the two men are at sharp odds as McCarthy is rejecting the deal McConnell cut with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and still trying to rely on House GOP votes to bolster his conference’s negotiating position.

I mean, he HAS been egging on a shutdown. But it doesn’t matter what the informed amongst us think, Fox “news” will spin it that Biden alone shut the government down. And just like everything else the cult will lap it up without a second thought.

To be fair, Trump could go in there and take a giant shit on the middle of the floor. And Fox News would still try to find a way to say that it was Bidens turd. These people are just fucking delusional.

Now, now. Fox isn’t OANN. They would NEVER suggest that it was President Biden’s turd. It was clearly Hunter Biden’s turd. The real question is why President Biden would pressure his drug addict son into shitting on the floor!

        I mean, duh.

Trump captured bin Laden single-handedly and his economic genius brought us back from the brink of the housing market crashing!

What has China Joe done? Nothing! He tried to muzzle us and put 5g chips in us with those damn vaccines! He’s the reason we’re all destitute. Let’s go, Brandon!

Yeah, the silent majority of 33-40% won’t stand for this!

    Russia: Republicans! We need help!

Republicans: Best we can do is get rid of all American military leadership and shut down the government.

Pentagon: So, aid to Ukraine is exempt from the shutdown…

This is the best summary I could come up with:

And then when the speaker appeared before his conference on Wednesday morning, McCarthy relayed that same message and later made clear he wouldn’t put the Senate bill on the House floor, underscoring the divide between the two most powerful Republicans in Washington at a pivotal moment for the country and their party.

With just days left until government funding runs dry, the two men are at sharp odds as McCarthy is rejecting the deal McConnell cut with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and still trying to rely on House GOP votes to bolster his conference’s negotiating position.

A number of Senate Republicans and Democrats alike are alarmed that McCarthy is pushing a plan that appears unlikely to pass his own chamber – and has no chance of becoming law – as top GOP lawmakers fear that the divisions within their own party would make it easier for the public to blame them for a damaging impasse.

In recent weeks, Senate GOP lawmakers have been critical of McCarthy’s decision to ignore a bipartisan debt ceiling law the speaker cut this summer that set spending levels for the government.

But under pressure from his right flank, which held the House floor hostage, McCarthy agreed to seek deeper cuts, putting him on a collision course with Republicans and Democrats alike in the Senate who are opposed to that effort.

Unlike when McConnell stayed on the sidelines during the debt ceiling fight and was content to let McCarthy take the reins, the Senate GOP leader worked with Schumer to negotiate a stopgap bill to extend current funding levels for 45 days.

Why can’t they just once try to send a straight forward bill without having to tack some unrelated bullshit to it? We need new rules about fat in bills. I’m all for lending support to Ukraine, but that has exactly fuck all to do with keeping the government of the United States running. There’s no good reason that legislation should not be simple, transparent, and single purpose. Got some unrelated shit? Make a new bill. What the fuck are we paying these assholes for? Running a country is not a game. Every one of these pointless obstructionists needs to go against the wall yesterday.

On the flip side I was watching CSPAN last night watching the house floor as they pushed all these amendments through. Boebert was soooo worried about putting in provisioning blocking the DHS from putting out a mask mandate ever again.

There were over 60 amendments last night. I didn’t watch them all so idk what all of them were but if even a few were like that, completely irrelevant to the funding bill, then they’re still trying to waste all our time.

My point wasn’t necessarily disagreeing, just pointing out that it happens in both the house and senate. We’re boned right now and the government will shut down. And with their crying I feel like it’s gonna be a long one. Passing in the house ain’t enough. The senate is gonna get fucky with it all too.

They both suck. This country needs to be able to hold a vote of no confidence when this kind of garbage is even hinted at. There’s no damned excuse. They have one job. They are not doing their job. For the people by the people is a joke.

I think a government shutdown should trigger a special election where every single person seat is up for re-election. We could argue that if the house passes and the senate does not then the senate needs re-elected not the house. Or if the house fails to propose the senate can remain. But if they can’t do their job then they should lose it. If I told my boss I lied on my resume and don’t know how to use spreadsheets I’d be fired in a heartbeat.
