  • Tangentially related, but i have taken to sleeping twice per day for around 4-5 hours each very well. I have adhd and at some point during the day I will just mentally crash, in the past I sometimes fell asleep sitting up somewhere (rewarded with wild neck pains of course).

Since deliberately taking a sleep during the day that has been much less of an issue.

  • Fair enough, though I must say that for me personally, as a german, nothing at all has changed in my life between having Obama, trump or Biden in office. Of course, what goes on politically in the states eventually affects the climate here as well, I was just arguing that not caring for the day to day business of foreign domestic politics is fine. Perhaps we argued over different things unintentionally.

  • Not op, but i have filtered a lot more than you actually. Lemmy has a very specific demographic and some topics and talking points are insanely repetitive and exhaustively discussed at all times, particularly US politics which, as a european, don’t matter to me. Just tell me who won when it’s done

Ideally, supervision over most non critical sectors would fall to randomly drafted, single term committees of the people, think jury duty except better compensated and obviously with bureaucratic resources available to enable these committees to fulfil their role adequately.

Now this isn’t suited for everything, but in either system any true oversight is done by the people, not the state.

  • Yes please daddy HR please mediate this mild discomfort between two coworkers because we cannot be bothered to just apologize to each other and move on on our own

Dont get me wrong i dont disagree with you that some people depend on the protection it offers, but it also makes me wonder how the person gets by outside work when they have to solve disagreements and rude interactions on their own.

  • Hot take: i never understood the whole controversy around him dating an alien with a very short lifespan.

She isnt a child in their society, just a (young) woman. Had she remained with the okampa she would likely have had romantic partners around that same time in her life, possibly children as well. For that matter, as far as I know neelix isn’t interested in her for her age in any way either, so I have a hard time seeing how it is considered creepy or inappropriate. Also, the actress was a normal adult woman, so that wasn’t weird either (I cringe more at the scenes of O’Brien and teen aged Keiko in that one TNG episode, at least they didnt kiss I guess).

I found him more annoying for his petty jealousy and overused mister vulcan interactions (although I generally enjoyed their dynamic).

  • Pretty sure that depends entirely on the individual. Since being deaf (or blind for that matter) isn’t as binary as it appears there are various degrees of hearing impairment. Perhaps one person is completely deaf, while another is still able to perceive certain frequencies, and yet another just needs it to be really fucking loud but if it is they hear just fine.

From my personal experience with a nearly deaf acquaintance they are using a special kind of hearing aid they can tie into their devices via Bluetooth. So they have the sound sent directly to the device specifically configured to allow them to hear.

  • Okay i dont want to shill on lemmy of all places, but i personally use a very similar watch i chose for the same reasons as you: i wanted an actual, physical wristwatch, with basic smart functionalities and a long battery life.

I settled on the scanwatch light made by withings. Looks like a classic wristwatch with a small black and white smart display as well as the standard health functions such as an activity tracker/reminder and pulse meter. The battery holds for 2-4 weeks on a single charge, depending on your use case.

I have had it for about six months now and am pretty satisfied. Only drawbacks are the need for the proprietary companion app and the somewhat archaic charger you have to clamp the watch into, though due to the long battery life you very rarely have to deal with that.
