So it is (I think the reasoning here is that, if God is the source of all Goodness and morality, rejecting belief in him necessitates rejecting God and, thus, belief in Him) but, like I mentioned, it’s Catholic belief that, in order for anything to warrant Hell, it just be willfully chosen.

Interesting. So a non-believer might not go to hell, so long as they don’t sin, but nor would they go to heaven. What, then?

Also, it raises the question of what counts as a sin. There are many things a Catholic would consider a sin that other people would not. Things like eating meat on Friday, use of contraceptives, or sex outside of marriage. Are these, if done by a non-Catholic, considered sins? And if not, is it not just…better not to be Catholic? Like, by converting people, is one not increasing the chance that they go to hell?

  • Some things that might help: doing some muscle-strengthening exercises. When I was getting really bad shin splints, I did these exercises after every run. Finding a similar set of home stretches and exercises you could do after your runs might help.

Increase your cadence. A tactic I’ve used both when dealing with recurrent knee pain and with the aforementioned shin splints problem. A higher cadence can help reduce the stress on the joints. I typically run about 170 spm, but tried to keep it up over 180 while recovering.

New shoes! Older running shoes lose their cushioning. If you’ve done more than 1000 km in the shoes you’re currently using, strongly consider a new pair. And consider whether they’re the right type of shoes for you. You don’t want carbon super shoes for your daily drivers—save those for the race and just one or two runs to break them in before the race. Nor do you want track flats if you’re running on the road or a trail.

Combine with cutting back the distance to the point that you don’t feel the pain. Pain in joints is very, very rarely the sort of thing it’s a good idea just to “run through”. “No pain, no gain” works for the sort of pain you get in your lungs when doing a really hard interval session. It does not work here.

Most importantly. If you can’t get yourself pain-free after reducing distance and slowly, slowly building the distance back up, along with some other basic ideas like the other ones I mentioned and the ones other users here have mentioned. Go and see a doctor.

  • It’s a huge improvement over the original. They’ve made a bunch of balance improvements without infringing on the unique identities of each civ (which is unfortunately what happened when they tried to do balance changes to the 2013 Extended Edition). The graphics are all new and now look how the game is in your nostalgia, rather than…how it actually looked. You can build bigger armies, and reuse god powers (for a cost). There’s improvement in quality-of-life features, like modern hotkeys, as well as tools to assist with scouting and eco management, if you’re a lower-skilled player who gets overwhelmed by all the multitasking.

  • Mobile is undoubtedly the worst. It’s unbearable. Hardly even a game.

I’ve never played the DS game. I might put Age of Empires Online in this spot instead.

It’s unfortunate, to me, that 3 ended up this low. It’s not my favourite, by a long shot, but it’s functional and fun. Which is more than can be said for the DE version of 1. I love the bones of 1, but the DE was terrible. So terrible that they tried releasing it again in the Return to Rome DLC for 2.

Which leaves us with the 3 good games. Being the mod of !aom@lemm.ee, nobody should be surprised that my favourite is Myth. 4 is actually my second favourite, and 2 is only in 3rd place. But Myth still has too many bugs and missing polish features. Even though it’s my #1 favourite, if I was asked to list which I think is the best, I’d put it in 3rd.

  • other instances like lemm.ee, sh.itjust.works, and lemmy.dbzer0.com would have been fine too

Ok. Why not lemm.ee or db0 then, given both of those are much less likely to affect users who do not have access to LW?

This is an unfortunate issue that we were not aware of at the time of transfer

That…shows that you are clearly not equipped to be running a large community in the fediverse. This is basic knowledge that you would have become aware of had you done even the most cursory amount of research or consultation with the community. It comes back to the problem of you springing this on the community without warning. It shows a complete lack of respect or regard for the community. If you didn’t know, ok, maybe that can be excused as just being happy in your own little bubble and not of consequence. But the fact that you never even cared enough to consider how it might affect your users is a major indictment upon you all.

We’re not sure what the solution is, but want to make our community as accessible as possible. Community solutions are welcome.

If you’re absolutely not willing to move back to blahaj, at least consider giving up on LW and moving to .ee. There is no solution to this problem while you remain on LW.

Our agreement with Ruud predated the now-rescinded policy changes

In the last thread you were saying that it was very much a last-minute thing, and that’s why Ada was not given more of a heads up. What’s the truth here? The full timeline?

Before you write me off as a hater, I’d like you to know that my initial reaction to the news was pretty neutral. I enjoy posts in the 196 community and have posted a few times myself, but have never been super dedicated to it. I saw the move was happening and thought “a bit weird, but ok”. Then I followed the updates and your response to feedback. It was you throwing Ada under the bus in the comments, and demonstrating that you had failed to even consider how the community would feel about things, that turned me against this.

it’s slightly grating for most criticisms regarding Christianity to just be reactions to the most obnoxious Protestants

I mean, the first thing I think of when I think “Christians” is “paedophile priests like Cardinal Pell” whom the Pope himself protected.

But yeah, after that one thing, most of the criticisms I have of Christianity fall more heavily on Protestants than Catholics. It’s just…that one thing is pretty damn fucking huge.

again, not believing isn’t a sin

I must admit, I find this genuinely fascinating. I had thought it was pretty standard Christian doctrine that belief in Christ is a prerequisite for getting in to heaven. Is that not the case? And, assuming it isn’t official doctrine, do you think most Catholics are aware of the official doctrine, or would they believe, as I did, that belief in Christ is necessary?
