I love my anarchist comrades and I love my communist comrades. I hate seeing memes like this. May we all be lucky enough to argue in the midst of a real revolution. Until then, focus on the fucking fascists.
“I’m knittin’ like a fuckin electric nan”

What would you call news outlets like the New York Times?
No, but we are replaying early mid-20th century here.
“Put politics aside and make the world a better place” is a wild sentence lol. As much as you may want to believe otherwise, we aren’t going to code our way out of political problems.
Ever since I was a teenager, I dreamed of a device like this that would “teach” you to play guitar.
Don’t believe your lying eyes.
Dope! Can’t wait til there’s packages for it :)
Lol yeah. I loved reading the books, but the thought of writing them did not interest me at all. Seemed like it would suck all the fun out of meeting people and building relationships. Also, academia did hold some slight appeal for me, overall I don’t think I would have enjoyed it.
He was great! I was (still am) older than him, but I really looked up to him and my other TA
I did anthro. It held my attention long enough to graduate lol. Can’t really do anything with a BA in it though, and I didn’t really want to become an anthropologist. Quality of the department will vary greatly from school to school AFAIK. Mine was pretty cool I guess. One of my TAs (grad student) was Jason Hickel.
Ugh, I went looking through food photos to find some of it and came up empty but hungry lol. It did remind me that that tofu recipe goes really well in a Vietnamese or Thai style noodle soup. Lots of fresh basil and bean sprouts, and we like to top it of with some crispy fried wonton wrapper triangles.
We ended up making this again for lunch, lol.
Just use vegan substitutes for non-vegan ingredients in recipes you already like. Or if it seems particularly difficult, look on YouTube (ie, vegan chile relleno).
Here’s a staple in our house: garlic and black pepper tofu. You can add it to other recipes or use it as is. We make it for thanksgiving as it goes great with mashed potatoes and gravy.
Tear a block of extra firm tofu into chunks (I prefer this to cubing it). Fry it in a pan with no oil, until all the water is evaporated. Then add oil and fry til golden brown. Move all the tofu to one side of the pan, and add some more oil to the empty space. Fry a bunch of minced garlic in that oil til it’s brown, then mix it up with the tofu. Add 5 or 6 good dashes of your favorite soy sauce and remove from heat. Add a generous amount of black pepper (preferably fresh ground). You’ll want to play with the amounts of garlic/soy sauce/pepper, but don’t be afraid to use a lot!
Huzzah! I know a bunch of geeks and radicals, so maybe that’s why.
Yeah, that’s pretty much it. “Mutual aid” is meant to be distinct from “charity” which has a different kind of implication. Mutual aid is more about “we help each other”. Charity can absolutely be organized, but tends to be more “structured” than mutual aid efforts.
Tension between real estate market and insurance industry existence…
I have at least 3 friends IRL that are on Lemmy. One of them I got to join, and two are friends I met doing mutual aid and other organizing projects. Later found out they’re on here.
Gab’s exclusively for nazis.
I’m someone with a leg in both tendencies, as it were. I purposely avoid getting too into the theory weeds, in favor of interacting with actual people. I see the word “tankie” used veeerrryyy liberally lately, and it feels like it doesn’t signify very much. Respectfully, thinking about “immediately after the revolution” is getting way ahead of yourself, at least in relation to who you work with today.
