Honestly they don’t sound like great people, or particularly intellectually curious - you explained it well, there’s no reason for them to be caricaturing it as nerd stuff. Especially since they’re on Reddit. I wouldn’t worry about them.

It definitely seems possible. The thing is they could have had a cheap but good staging! He was a guest act on the moldovan NF and there wasn’t really any stging, he was actually dressed well for once, it was the most effective performance of that song I’ve seen - they could have just gone minimalistic and it would have been fine… but instead they chose chaos

He was really done dirty by TVR - the song wasn’t one of my favourites but he’s obviously talented, it’s almost like they sabotaged him on purpose (although I’m not sure why they’d do that). It’s grim, so I’m glad he’s angry and speaking out about it all.

I guess they’re trying to learn from the disaster of an NF they had this year, but it’s not really the performers who were the problem. Some of them had potential! If RTÉ had invested in a bit of artist development - vocal coaching, getting comfortable with the cameras, etc - they could have had something good on their hands. But that’s a different timeline…

Also: why do they only want MP3s in 192kbps?

IMO there aren’t any massive surprises here, but that’s not a bad thing - this year had some really strong national finals and I reckon at least half of these songs are brilliant :D

I don’t think it’s fair to expect someone looking to join a new knitting community to learn about client/server relationships and federated social platforms.

This is the situation with the communities I’m most interested in - it’s a big psychological barrier to entry, if you’re not particularly tech-minded. I’ve been trying to spread the word, but I don’t think I can put it simply enough (and I’ve been putting it really simply, because honestly I don’t completely understand it all myself yet).

I’m here because it was easy to sign up, it’s friendly and reasonably intuitive, and it seems like a place where you can learn by doing. I just jumped in without thinking too much about it, and it’s working out pretty well so far. I just wish more people understood that they could do the same thing…

Same - and that’s why it sucks that they’re going to ruin those communities. But hopefully we can build something better on here.
