i tried to get my friends to come here! i have a few that are always complaining about reddit and i know this site would scratch the same itch for them while not having all the reddit garbage but for whatever reason, they never checked it out.

It’s not. it might be only a few annoying accounts going out of their way to do it, but try living in a red state and criticizing a liberal online and you’ll quite often get told how you’re a “dumb redneck” crypto-Trump supporter. it doesn’t even take much to get them to start spouting that bullshit. the only thing the conservatives are correct about is liberals are very annoying and condescending.

Most people don’t know what Nitter is. Most people aren’t “the most dangerous users,” they’re lazy, so any extra steps is a deterrent. Keeping the weak deterrent is still a net positive.

The types of posts i’m talking about here aren’t things like “this is where i live” but innocuous things that transphobes or racists decide to take out of context. I would post all these things publicly but it’s good to be able to make them more private from the freaks who are gonna freak out bc I said trans kids exist and put me in a cringe compilation to encourage others to harass me. Twitter never made it impossible to do that, but Elon’s making it easier.

The current system makes it harder because you have to create a new account. There are people who are either too dumb to realize they can do that or just won’t bother jumping through the extra hoops. Obviously it’s not perfect, but it’s better than doing this.

And being worried about stalking is extremely counter to posting something publicly.

Using Twitter on private kinda sucks. It makes the site less fun. All this is doing is making it so the creeps can have more fun on the site while marginalized people being harassed by those creeps have a worse experience on the site. not sure why y’all are defending this but whatever.

Yes it does. It’s actually good to make it harder to stalk people. Yes, it wasn’t a perfect system but every layer of extra work makes it harder to harass people who blocked you is good.

I kind of don’t think this, at least not that soon. It’s too perfect propaganda for the Democrats. Unlike someone like Bush, who came from a “respectable” political family, Trump is seen as an outsider. I honestly think they’ll keep pushing the foreign intervention angle and use Trump as an example of how everyone from outside the current establishment is a Russian/Iranian/Chinese asset. Democrats love running against him so instead of offering anything that will beat the next Republican, they’ll just say he or she is “the next Trump.” They’ll likely continue this long after its effective because they’re bad at politics and love to be annoying. I think this will especially be true if Kamala gets elected and completely fucks everything up.

if they do rehab him, it’ll be more like Reagan where it didn’t start until the 2010s, after he’s dead and a big chunk of people who know how bad he is are also dead or old enough that most younger people won’t take them seriously.

The podcast he did was so funny. I loved the bit where he’d write the worst jokes ever on cards and try to get his guests to tell them on air. I also always lost it when he’d talk about how Hitler was “a really bad guy” for some reason.

I also think his WTF with Maron episode was super interesting.

It can also be used to improve your skills as an artist. For example, there’s a music theory plugin called Scaler 2 which uses AI. You can run recordings through Scaler and it will spit out the chords and key the songs are in. I’ve been using it to learn music theory. I’m not sure if any of y’all have tried learning music theory in a formal setting but a lot of teachers are incredibly pretentious, especially if you tell them you’re a guitarist or want to make electronic dance music. You could technically use it to write entire songs but those would be boring and lifeless.

My high school band wrote a country song called “dead dog in a pick up truck” that talked about how my wife left me so we could audition to play at a local bar (which looking back was super sketchy to allow us in to begin with.)
