The native Taiwanese did fight back against the ROC that fled to the island after losing the civil war and now rules it, but they were killed in the White Terror along with the island’s leftists and liberals.

The PLA of the mainland back then did not have the resources or capability to chase the nationalists off of Taiwan since they had the US navy’s backing.
