ASHLAND — Twenty-six Amish who refused to pay their fines for violating a law that requires flashing lights on their buggies appeared in court on Friday.

Once there, Ashland Municipal Court Judge John Good ruled out the possibility of jail time for them and instead said he would impose liens on their real estate.

I’ve never owned a car with auto headlights, I’ve always owned trucks and vans but I’m thinking you HAVE to be able to turn the headlights off. Getting caught in the fog during the day would turn deadly otherwise. Any “solution”, to a questionable problem, that just creates new morbidities is no solution at all.

That being said, the new smart headlights, that black out the part of the beam opposing traffic is in (so you never need to turn high beams off and you never blind people) are fucking siiiiiiick. are they $8k sick? Hell nah. If that’s a patent, it should be pulled in the name of public safety, mandated and then let competition bring the cost down. I wouldn’t be opposed to government assisting mandatory retro-fitting either.
