So, I’m planning on buying myself a (second-hand) laptop once I get the money. I’m nowhere near tech-savvy so it has to be easy to use, but also I want something that is built to last, as opposed to certain (looking at you, Apple) devices that are desinged to become unusable within a next couple of years.

Any recommendations?

Yeah, I had an early generation iPad, and the hardware still worked alright. It was a little sluggish, but the battery held a decent charge. The problem was that I couldn’t upgrade the OS, so I couldn’t update a lot of apps, like Safari. Without the updates, I couldn’t run current JavaScript. For example, it didn’t handle arrow functions, so a lot of websites just stopped working.

I probably could have worked around it, but it didn’t feel like it was worth the hassle.

Yup, this is exactly the problem with apple. Their manufacturing is excellent, but the fact that they can just stop updating the OS should be illegal. I mean, you can put Linux on it and still be able to use it, so it’s not bricked or anything, but it’s bullshit that the build something that lasts a nice long time, but force you to replace it anyway.
