Among supporters of Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, there continue to be wide gaps on cultural issues, the role of government and America’s place in the world.
Fair enough. Probably one of those areas where Ds and Rs agree, but for different reasons.
Like when you say “America is going in the wrong direction” and Ds are like “yeah, we’re moving rightward and closer to a Christian theocracy and it sucks” and Rs are like “yeah, we’re moving leftward and toward a woke secular communist state”
I guess it just struck me as gross because we have like significantly more people locked up in the US than any other country on earth.

Yeah, you’re right that’s one of the most significant statistics and your answer is probably better.
My answer would be emotional, driven by outrage headlines. There are some high profile cases that are getting away with criminal behavior. Apparently I’m easily manipulable, but that’s what you might expect from a survey.
I also hope were well on our way to finally fixing that statistic. Decriminalizing marijuana is a huge step in that direction. All too few with excessive sentences for their dependency were pardoned but the bigger step is fewer people going to jail from now on.
My state has a ballot question to ease restrictions on psychedelics and I know it’s not the first, so there’s a win for allowing another treatment plus a few more people who will not go to jail.
Now if we can just outlaw for-profit prisons, and fix a few high profile cases of profiteering off sending people to prison, and we’re on our wsy
