OP are you from the South? Here in the North we teach all the dirty details, but I’ve heard from numerous southerners that their schools leave out stuff if not blatantly lie about history.
It’s taught in southern schools, too. Though I don’t deny your statement (many people in OK never learned about the Tulsa Race Riots until they were adults, for example). The trail of tears is taught down here, though.
