Afghanistan - a communist government that for the first time provided education for girls and allowed women to hold professional jobs - destroyed in the name of anti-communism against the Soviet Union.
Indonesia - one of the most bloody massacres with more than a MILLION civilians killed in the name of anti-communism, buried the Non-Aligned Movement that the Third World sought to become independent from NATO and the Warsaw Pact, and turned Indonesia from one of the most progressive force in Asia back to a backward religious conservative state.
Iran - coup against a social democratic government who wanted to nationalize its oil and resources, which turned the country back to the deeply corrupt shah regime and directly paved the way for the rise of Islamic extremism in the country.
Chile - coup against a progressive, social democratic government who also wanted to nationalize its OWN resourcees, and massacre against hundreds of thousands of left wing activists (if you can stomach it, look up what they kind of monstrosity they did to those people, don’t say I didn’t warn you though), and turned it into a neoliberal hellhole and decades of right wing dictatorship.
Russia - the administering of neoliberal shock therapy that led to one of the worst humanitarian crisis in peacetime, turning a progressive society to one with extreme poverty within a few years, and conditions so bad that child prostitution literally came back. Are you surprised that Russia is now a conservative country that hates Western culture (despite decades of trying to appease the Western leaders)? The great progressive Western culture that brought them into extreme poverty?
This is not even close to listing all the countries that the US has had its hand in. Vietnam, Iraq, Libya, Syria, etc. I could go on and on but you get the point. If you support Ukraine/NATO, you are literally supporting the same atrocities being committed against the progressive movements in Ukraine and Russia, and possibly the rest of the Global South considering how many countries are dependent on Russia for energy, food and defense.
Yup, been replaying Michael Parenti’s lectures talking about Yugoslavia, Iraq and Libya recently and it’s bizarre how things have not changed over the decades, and the same talking points about the “bad countries” continue to rile up the liberals into supporting warmongering imperialism despite being proven false time and time again.
