Inspired by this post by @lazerp@lemmy.world , I had to make a start on my own spiderweb top last week. I’m a bit older and…let’s say “slightly” wider…than the target audience so honestly not sure if it’s going to work or not but it’s so fast and cheap to make I figured why not!

The dummy was already wearing that hat, so it’s just coincidence, but I will 100% be wearing those together as it’s clearly fate.

Just a note for anyone else trying to follow the video tutorial linked in the OP, the white version that the designer is wearing has 11 segments (like mine) but if you follow the instructions she gives in the video you’d end up with 12. So just personal preference and something to bear in mind, there!

Hopefully I can get this done pretty quickly in between other projects. What else are you all crocheting this Wednesday?

Actually had to look up the yarn weight because I’ll be honest, it’s just some spare from an old project and happened to be within arm’s reach when I got the urge to start this! 😅

But turns out it’s fingering weight yarn, and I went with a 3mm hook. I’m a very loose crocheter though so that could be the difference there. And of course, no guarantees mine is going to turn into anything wearable…very much still in the experimental stages here.

Thank you so much. I’m using exactly the same weight of yarn and roughly the same hook size. I’ve often suspected that I’m putting away too much tension on my crochet knots. I think this is a good gage of that. Instead of grabbing a heavier fiber, I’m going to take another shot at it and see if I can learn to be more loose.

No worries! If loosening up isn’t enough you can always try just going up a hook size or two, no need to necessarily get new yarn.

My instinct now is to challenge you to a race, but I’m exhausted from life stuff this week and don’t think I have it in me to be competitive 😂
