So, I understand that all interactions we make like posts and comments are visible from anyone.

Even though I believe it’s a bit less private than I’d like I also believe that upvotes and downvotes are federated, I wonder if they’re federated in a more private way using some hash or something or if it’s just openly federated.

What about the email I had to use to register here? Hopefully this one lives only with the database of the this instance and it’s not federated at all.

Cheers

Instances don’t share user data, only content which includes up/down votes. The data you use to sign into an instance is only stored on that instance. If you go to another instance you need to create an account on that particular instance.

When you post and reply you’re doing it on the Fediverse. All the instances form one big cluster housing all the content. There may be less privacy for your content, but it’s knowingly public from the start. I suppose a decentralized architecture has more potential for exploitation, but on the other hand you’re not directly subjecting your content to corporate profit.

Thank you very much. I’m happy with my upvotes and everything being shared across the fediverse, was just worried about the email.
