everybodys jumping down your throat (and to be clear, they should. i agree with them 100%), but the reason firefox behaves this way is that it doesn’t pass a dragged tab out to the window manager until it’s definitley supposed to be a window.

so when i drag a tab to reposition it in a browser window, the window manager and compositor never needs to touch it. when i drag a tab off the window to another firefox window tiled next to it, the host os never needs to touch it. same thing when i drag a tab all over the screen outside the borders of a firefox window and then release in another firefox window. when i drag a tab off the window and let go, fonly then irefox asks the host os to make a window.

that’s a pretty good behavior if you ask me. and if i was writing the program to handle that interaction i’d do it the same way.

i don’t know your workflow or what youre trying to do, but a long time ago i abandoned all the keyboard shortcut addons to learn the existing shortcuts better, and ctrl-l -> shift-enter has been my go to method for breaking a tab out into a window quickly in firefox. I think it works in chrome too.
