    This is absolutely a reasonable request. I want to share pictures of my family with close relatives without seeing them plastered all over Facebook or wherever. It’s an awkward situation, and this person is trying to come up with a technical solution.

    It’s doomed to fail, of course, because said relatives can (and will) take photos of their screens and post those online. It sucks!

    Saying this seems related to CSAM is a pretty fucking wild accusation, tbh

      honestly as long as you don’t mind 1 or 2 making their way online indirectly like that and having to deal with that the old fashioned way (talking to them, asking them to delete them, removing them from the group that receives the pics if necessary), the technical solution could at least significantly reduce the effort involved in maintaining such a policy, though it wouldn’t solve it outright

        That’s been my exact experience! In my case, it was getting the grandparents an iPad and using iCloud shared albums. They weren’t able to export the photos from the tablet, and that stemmed the tide for a good while.

        Maybe it’s retribution for the times I didn’t listen to them as a kid, but at least I had the excuse of being a kid
