The annular design makes such a strong connection that someone pulling on the wire the wrong way will rip the receptacle off the board. It should be standard for the cable to fail under stress instead of getting into a pissing contest with the smd ground/shield joints between the board and receptacle.
The little usbc ports also have way too many delicate pins in em that can be messed up and they’re all mounted on a little plastic tongue. One of those ground connections gets folded over and shorted to a power line and at best the controller shuts down to save everybody.
