For those wondering, this is a reference to Karl Malden’s (actor) work as spokesman for American Express traveller’s cheques. In the ads people kept losing their wallets and of course if they had Amex cheques they were fine…
The joke is that Karl was helping them “lose” their wallets
I remember the frequent traveler’s cheques commercials, but I still didn’t recognize the reference. Thank you for clarifying.
Why do all of these have the current date instead of the original?
It’s the date that they are posted on www.thefarside.com, they don’t provide the original publish dates.
Wouldn’t 1988 be the original published date? (It’s in the top right corner of the panel)
I think it’s funny so many people can’t grasp the reason for the post title date though.
What do you mean?Edit: OP has corrected “dye” to “date”…The current DATE
It was edited, originally it said “dye”
Yep, I was “translating” for them. As you say, it’s been fixed since.
Sorry, autocorrect changed “date” to “dye.”
