A Texas man accidentally shot a child while officiating a wedding in Lancaster County on Saturday, the sheriff’s office says.

Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said deputies were sent to a wedding at Hillside Events near Denton on a report of a gunshot wound.

Deputies learned that 62-year-old Michael Gardner, the wedding’s officiant, fired a gun to get everyone’s attention.

“He was going to fire in the air, and as he did that, it slipped and went off,” Houchin said.

The gun was loaded with a blank that Gardner made with gunpowder and glue.

Bullshit semantics to defend a reckless gun owner shooting a child with home-made ammunition. The child suffered a wound from the firing of a gun for which they were treated at a hospital.

Although the childs injuries were considered non-life threatening, so is breaking your arm in 4 places. Are you going to volunteer to show us how that’s no big deal because it wasn’t a bullet?

And then there’s you, leaping to the defense of an irresponsible gun owner with lies and misdirection.

The child received a “deep laceration” and was taken to hospital, far beyond a “slap”. The police didn’t hold the man responsible because there was no need to and that’s how it works. He still faces potential charges, including possible jail time.

But I’m sure he appreciates knowing your warm mouth is waiting for him when he gets out.

      • Would you like to guess what percentage of gun safety courses and lists of rules about gun safety include the phrase “Treat every gun like it’s loaded” or equivalent?

If you are going to advocate for responsible gun ownership, advocate for responsible gun ownership. This was not an example of such.
