Been streaming for about 7 months or so and have really been enjoying it! I’m always looking for ways to make it better but am having some trouble thinking of some interesting ways for viewers to use their channel points in larger amounts.

Right now I mostly have sound effects for cheap to let people stay engaged and participate throughout the stream. I don’t really have any larger point redeems aside from one for 3k to play without my glasses for a set time.

Any of you out there find any success with point redeems that aren’t just memes like 1 million points to end the stream?

I feel like a lot of streamers have a lot of crappy rewards honestly. Sound effects can annoy viewers throughout your whole channel as much as entertain others so you’re always risking a lost viewer every time someone plays something.

VIP is an obvious one. If you have a discord, assign a role for VIP and connect it to twitch. They don’t need extra benefits apart from a different nickname colour, but benefits rarely hurt here either.

Spin the wheel is a good one. You can use several wheels, a higher priced one should have things on it that you rarely want to do. You can use https://wheelofnames.com/

Bingo cards can be good (but also clumsy and session-changing, good for higher priced redemptions). https://bingobaker.com/

That aside, any point redemptions should be based on what you stream, which you didn’t say in your post.

“Meme” rewards like end the stream are ridiculous. Use something fun instead that the whole channel will actually want.

(Just realized how long this is becoming, sorry for the novel)

Really appreciate the thoughtful response! Sorry I didn’t think about including what I do just because I wanted to hear from any type of streamer/viewer. I’m just a variety streamer so I do a lot of different stuff but generally play all the way through the games that are played on stream.

Viewers of mine have continuously asked for various sounds so we do have quite a bit of them. I don’t get a lot of people so I just have them cheap without cooldowns because people have generally not abused that…until this past month so looking to change that.

For VIP, that’s just been something I’ve given out at my discretion for people who have been around consistently and chat with me. Although I guess that isn’t as fair for people who don’t have time/ability to chat and may be excluding those who lurk a lot. Will need to rethink it.

We’ve done random wheel spinning stuff but generally for picking games or just throwing viewer names on there with fake point values to make it kind of random game. I’ve had trouble coming up with ideas for things that I would do based on a wheel spin, I’ve asked people in chat what they like but people just say to watch and talk.

Bingo sounds like an interesting idea! Gonna check that out more.

I have two dumb redeems where one literally just flips my camera on stream called “Australian Stream” and I can say the word “flip” to make it change back — or people can trick me to say it to make it change. The other is just called “Test Reward” that goes up a point every time it’s redeemed, then it says a person has the test reward in the corner of the stream.

TLDR: I’m not great at thinking of ideas (overthink them really), stream variety, probably have too many sound redeems

Good sound alerts - even less than 10 of them - are an excellent subscriber incentive, better than a point redemption. People who sub tend to be less prone to immaturity, but yes, they need cooldowns regardless unless you’re just getting extremely lucky.

I think giving out VIPs to regulars is a mistake. Regulars can naturally earn it through a point redemption, and most services include “Regular” as a separate role, so you can have separate incentives for Regulars you like and VIPs who earn and pay points for something extra. Personally I consider VIP as a better role than moderator if the incentives are right. Moderators are subject to the whims of the streamer, whereas VIPs can have locked-in rewards that the streamer has pre-determined that they can have, or extra weighting to decisions on-the-go.

Coming up with ideas on the wheel spin is not easy for anyone, and harder for variety streamers. It’s easier if you have a separate wheel per game.

The camera flip called “Australian Stream” is potentially alienating Australian viewers, even if they seem to not be offended by it - would recommend renaming that.

I have been extremely lucky with the people who have come to the stream! Various ages and maturity but I don’t believe I’ve had to timeout or ban anyone that wasn’t a bot. I have like…5 subscribers, maybe 3 of which aren’t just friends throwing their prime at me. Right now the subscriber perk is getting a custom walk on sound of their choice but not even everyone takes that. So right now the sounds are for everyone until maybe the community grows?

For VIP I was looking to change it to something else, but leaving the people who have it with the status like being “grandfathered” into it. It was very early into my stream and I just wanted a way to thank people for being there before I even hit affiliate to get channel points. Honestly all VIP gives right now is the badge in chat. I haven’t figured out what else to provide for them or how to create a separate “regulars” status or incentive so I’ll have to research that!

Thank you for the outside perspective on the potentially hurtful/alienating nature of the redeem name. I should’ve put more thought into it beyond thinking it’s just a harmless/good natured joke. I try to be as inclusive as I know how to be in my channel and that may not be interpreted as such. Will be changing that up for the next stream!

Nightbot has the Regulars role, you can do things like allow only certain roles to use custom commands.
