The resolution to empower McHenry, appointed as speaker pro tempore after Kevin McCarthy was ousted as speaker on Oct. 3, may also not have the votes, according to this source.

Considering his first action as acting speaker was to pettily throw democratic reps out of their offices in defiance of precedent that even McCarthy followed, I hope his pseudo-term is as frustrating as possible.

I understand this stance emotionally, but there’s a ton of extremely important work Congress needs to get done immediately. It can’t progress with a standard interim speaker.

This is bigger than “Haha, the people I don’t like are going to look bad”. They have a fucking job to do and a limited amount of time to do it. If it doesn’t get done, innocent people will suffer.

Unless you’re offering to somehow pay the salaries and contracts of the ~6 million civilians who will lose pay with a government shutdown, to say nothing of the humanitarian efforts worldwide that run off the federal budget.

I still want them to get stuff done, I just want him to have a bad time herding his clown show of a caucus. I agree ton of crucial stuff is at stake both domestically and abroad.
