Geological Appraiser {2}{R}{R}

Creature — Human Artificer

When Geological Appraiser enters the battlefield, if you cast it, discover 3. (Exile cards from the top of your library until you exile a nonland card with mana value 3 or less. Cast it without paying its mana cost or put it into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom in a random order.)

3/2

      One less color, ability to put card in hand, and no cast requirement in exchange for haste doesn’t seem like a bad trade, though I’ll admit I’m not really familiar with the decks that play it. Is haste a big part of its appeal?

        I don’t really think it gets played anymore, but yeah I think haste is a big part of its appeal. For any creature, you want it to do something the turn it comes down. This guy does still get you a card, but I doubt the advantage of putting the card in your hand is that great when you can build your deck around the cascade effect.

    Fixed cascade? I wonder if we’ll see a card that discovers for higher than it’s mana value.

    I thought exileing was something different. It’s been a bit since I played so please correct me if I’m wrong.

      I’m not sure what you mean, exactly, but on this card, the exile effect is only temporary. The cards go to the zone just as a way to keep them separate from any other card until everything resolves. The main mechanic here is the ability to cast a card for free, or put it into your hand.

          Yeah. There aren’t really zones where things are stuck permanently anymore, except maybe the “Emblem zone” that PW emblems exist in. For everything else, cards can move in and out when explicitly said to.
