Well the problem is if you are poor enough you are already in a death spiral of debt.

You have poor parents and wanna go to college? Well in debt you go. (because in the USA people hate solcialism since it is almost communism) And then you don’t get a job that pays your rent, because rich people fuck you over again. And then you get sick and the doctor gives you a bill you can’t pay. I mean you couldn’t even afford a health care insurance if you wanted to sooo whatever. Then your credit card is in the negative because you buy food.

So now you are probably paying more in interest of your detbs than your income gives you. Yeah well at least in jail you don’t have to pay for food and shelter.

Yes there are people out there that just manage their finances wrong, but in the USA I would say it’s a system issue.

It would be great if there was any real attempt to explain anything in your first paragraph to high schoolers, instead of lying to them that they HAVE to go to college and that a loan is the ONLY way to do that, otherwise they won’t have a future.

I understand things are getting better in that direction for young people today, but a massive amount of the millennial generation in the US was lied to and tricked into life long debt, which is owed to people who already have absurd amounts of money and just flat do not need to siphon even more money from poor people.

The entire thing is a joke.

Still in countries like Germany with a mostly working social safety net you don’t have that much issues with people losging money.

Also because some shit that is legal in the us is illegal here because you don’t want a bank to take more money from you than they already do.

Right? The day after I overdrafted, I was making Excel spreadsheets. Monthly bills, food, gas, paychecks… I had charts and shit. Never happened again.

“I’ve never understood”, you got that much right. In America one accident can leave you bankrupt in an instant. Shit even the ambulance ride is enough to make a lot of people in this country break. It’s not a balancing issue, it’s a systemic economic issue. Get off your fucking high horse.
