Let’s be honest here, I feel like everyone knows whose 2034 bid will be successful. Why waste money on a bid that’s doomed to fail? Or worse, maybe we would get one or two matches in Australia and the rest in Saudi Arabia.

As much as I’d love to see the tournament here, that’s the right decision. We’re still reeling from our last bid when it went to Qatar under questionable circumstances, going to be the same result going up against Saudi.

The absolute clarity in which world football can be bought is disgusting.
Australia pulled out after the AFC basically put all their support behind Saudi Arabia. Last time Australia bid for the 2022 World Cup we got 1 vote. AFC don’t really like Australia that much, it was just mutually beneficial to allow us to join, but they don’t like it.
Sepp Blatter then came out a few years later and said “Australia will never host it because they can’t make enough money. World Cups need to make enough money to cover the next 4 years”
Hard to convince taxpayers after our failed 40mil bid and it ended up being hosted in a desert over the worlds most liveable city.
A country with the proper infrastructure to host a WC already?
That’s not the FIFA way. FIFA likes when developing nations take money out of their limited budgets to build football stadiums that serve no other purpose to society beyond the month-long event.
The only possible alternative left is the joint-Southeast Asian bid then. It’ll almost certainly go to Saudi Arabia now.

After the great success of the Womens World Cup here, there was a lot of hope for the future of the game and the prospect of at least bidding for the men’s world cup. However, it’s clear FIFA has already made up their mind that Saudi Arabia will be the host, so no point wasting time and money. What a joke though. Playing a few games in Uruguay in 2030 so they can tick off all 3 of Europe, Africa and SAmerica ‘hosting’ a WC in one go so they can immediately get back to the Gulf countries is such thinly veiled corruption. Very disappointing.
