An aging population that values its free time set the stage for economic stagnation. Then came Covid-19 and Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Well yeah, what are we waiting to work ourselves to death? Where this stupid idea of having free time came from? What the shareholders gonna think about it??

I suppose this kind of “journalism” has the only scope of making americans feel better.

Was putting 10 hours a day in my work before all that. Still putting the same hours in. Have obviously less purchase power. I don’t see no free time in this… I even had to learn some crafts to survive the inflation so it’s even less “me time” than before…

Yep. Wealth inequality in the U.S. really skews the perception in a lot of comparisons from country to country when using average income

Americans are becoming poorer. 'Yes, We’re All Worse Off." A middle class overworked by its CEO set the stage for economic regression. Then came greedflation and federal rates increases.

“Then came Covid and russias war in Ukraine” bullshit. Then came capitalist interests seeing excuses to squeeze out the general population.

    Fuck whoever wrote that.

This reads like DARVO - Corporate Edition with a derogatory jab towards free time and unions both.

I work 30h now too and thus I suppose this is aimed at people like me, but tell you what: the job I applied to was actually only approved by HR/payroll for 30h max, the company doesn‘t WANT to pay more than this and they knew they wouldn‘t find anyone experienced to sell 40h of their life for such a measly salary.

So we managed to find a mutually beneficial agreement, I get to live and exist like a frugal monk, perpetually renting and never owning anything (the European dream!), and they filled a position at 70%, pocketing 30% of the salary they would have had to pay to attract a full time worker.

Now, how is it my fault I can’t spend like an American and the economy stagnates then? It‘s maybe a shared responsibility, but truly, the company is the one in charge here and if they told me I have to work full time and get that 30% more pay too, I probably would (since I kinda like my current job oddly enough and don‘t want to switch again yet).

Well yeah, they don’t have enough young people to replace them. Did you miss the France protests?

We have automation and increased production to replace them. That’s what innovation is supposed to have done for society.

Like… wtf is this brain rot where we have produced productivity tenfold or more since the last generation and yet we try to tell people they can’t retire because there’s not enough workers to sustain it? That’s ludicrous.

Someone has to use those machines it is even proven that an AI system by itself is not good at all you need the ai in tandem with humans to ease and improve the tasks being done

You understand that I’m not talking about AI right? I’m talking about technology that improves production.

I just have a hard time when I encounter just brutal unfiltered stupidity like this. Especially when it’s with a condescending tone. It’s like… I wanna give them a chance to explain because maybe I’m misunderstanding. But it always boils down into “no, this person is just a drooling moron.”

That’s frustrating to me. I want to believe people are better than that. And I know they can be.

Not what I said. You implied ai doesn’t improve production, I am saying that it does improve it. Now I don’t know if you are just facetious
