I was trying to get into self hosted services to keep my mind active and stay engaged whilst going through a cancer diagnosis.

Unfortunately it’s spread to my brain and whilst there are some odds we don’t know what will happen. I’m here to say if you self hoat anything self host your own joy, hopefully you’re already doing it! Life is short and we all live on borrowed time.

I hate the wankers that earn multiple times median earnings, most of which I’ve met are self entitled egotists if you scratch the surface. So I’m proud of all of you who contribute and try. It can be be weird, personal, or a huge success but you turned up and gave it a whirl!

It’s disgusting thinking about the profit margins tech companies feel entitled to, even though they’ve supported me most of the career I did get to have and all I say is that nothing replaces painstaking and exacting work and freedom isn’t something to give up without adequate compensation (whatever that means to you).

Power to the grass roots and power to all of you for showing up in any and all capacities just to ask how can I help you out here.

❤️ safe journeys and many surprises I hope for many of your best years continue and grow.

Caregiver for wife with cancer right now, and two kids.

I self host pterodactyl for the kids, and my *rr stack, jellyfin + some funky process of using my kids camera roll cloud backups, and sync the shared album up with an rclone cronjob that keeps all our stuff we do together, from each of our individual cameras, and they’re all on jellyfin for anyone to watch, any time.

Keep memories alive with mkdocs and write poetry for others to access over a nicely crafted markdown+css web page

Self hosting has kept me sane from my own suicidal ideation and depression since the mid 90s.

    We’re with you
