I get the feeling (I wouldn’t really know, haven’t been there in months) that Reddit is still significantly better. Sure, it’s worse now, but it still has active communities on pretty much any topic imaginable. Lemmy is on its way, but won’t be there for a few years I think.
I was shook the other day when I stopped by reddit and saw, “just a normal day in russia” at the top of the front page. As Americans we need to give up on the idea of a non-political social media because it always gets co-optd into some psy-ops bullshit.
Lemmy is shit too. Public opinion is turning against .world and soon it’s going to be in the same place as Twitter was 3 years ago, in terms of user opinion. Hexbear is taking a shit on everyone, and everyone else is taking a shit on Hexbear. Defederation is running rampant as all the assholes on this platform fight over who’s the least shitty asshole. The trans instances are transphobic, and every big instance is run by people mentally unequipped for the responsibility who are getting egosick and power tripping.

There’s some genuine communities lingering on, but almost all of the larger communities have become part of the power mods’ “projects”.

All capitalist or statist media is political. A non-political social media would need to prohibit any content which conflicted with anarcho-communism.
