That’s way too much money. They must have a lot of faith in their current pitching prospects.
I’m more concerned about how long the contract is. No way he’ll be the same pitcher at 37 that he is at 30.
Yeah I am surprised at the length too. Thought that was the main sticking point and that the Phillies wanted something like 4 - 5 years.

Guess that means they plan on him being a semi-permanent jersey seller too. Maybe the pitching staff is seeing something else there that could be developed, not so sure myself.
That being said, Griff Mcgarry kinda fell apart as a prospect, IMO. Mick Abel started and lost his first triple A game, which kept the Ironpigs out of the Triple A championship. Andrew Painter is IR/disabled until 2025 as per tommy johns surgery. An love Jose Alvarado, but when he gets spooked/nervous, he starts to lose control and throwing balls.
This is a long winded way of saying, might not be who we want, but who we need.
