EDIT: The title above should say X20, not X18.

I’m getting a great deal on an Exos X20. However, I don’t have a NAS.

What do I need is a reliable, high capacity external HDD that I can use to hoard and carry my data around.

Since these drives use SATA connectors, can you just connect a SATA cable to these drives, plug them into a laptop and use it as an external drive? Would it work?

I have no experience with these helium filled drives and reaching out to the community here to enlighten me whether they could work for the above use case.

Thanks

    Sure.

It will break, just as reliably as any other HDD if you drop it high enough.

    You need SATA and 12V.
