SAMTSE, Bhutan (AP) — Monsoon rains have finally passed and floods blocking the lone dirt road have retreated enough for a small truck to climb these Himalayan foothills to a gurgling spring. It spews water so fresh that people here call it nectar.

    We need fusion to happen now, cheaply and relatively locally to facilitate desalination plants everywhere.

      The salty by-products are a huge problem, especially if you scale massively. I’m not sure how that can be overcome. Desal plants are by no means a panacea, though, that’s for sure.

        There would be mountains of salt destroying nearby ecosystems. Sequestering or transporting that mess would be costly, and cost = energy use.

      I posted an article a few days ago about Japan making strides in fusion. It’s still not ready though. I want to live to see Star Trek.
