I’m back in the states for holidays but this time it was such a shock to realize everything looks so old, like from the airport to the convenience stores, malls, gas stations, etc. Why does everything look like it hasn’t changed from the 90s? And I was out just for a couple of months but things look newer and shinier in Panama and El Salvador compared to here. I cannot even imagine what some of you coming back from east Asia must feel. Did our country peak in the 90s and other countries are going through their renaissance? I love the convenience of the US where everything is open 24 hrs and you can get things delivered to your door basically overnight if you pay the price but I feel like we’re stuck with very old and boring infrastructure, makes me feel almost the same way I felt when I went to eastern Europe

Maybe Romania sucks, but it’s definitely not true about all countries in the region.

While I appreciate your appreciation of your American home compared to Romania, the point is that Eastern Europe is behind for a reason and some countries have and will catch up. There’s absolutely no reasons for the US to look as shitty as it does. It wasn’t behind the iron curtain in 1985. there was no reason for that level of decay.

It could also be you’ve never been to the rust belt which looks FAR worse than Romania right now. I rode Amtrak through the skids of Indiana and Pennsylvania and it was brutal.

Hmm ok I see your point. Maybe it’s because the US in general is a much larger space to manage or many other factors im not educated enough about tbh

Most of us have WiFi through a service called DIGI. It’s pretty affordable like…8-10 dollars a month

That’s what I was getting at. Internet access in Romania is far ahead of the US. It’s not fair to say everything is better in the US.
