I have a house where I have dumb light switches (eu). I would like something like a relay, that support dimming, that I can place behind the dumb switches. Preferably zigbee. What’s is the best option for this? And is it even possible to add a dimmable relay behind a dumb on off switch? I would think so but I’m no expert.

If this is a new build, I would pay the premium to put in nice zigbee or zwave switches. I use zwave and could recommend zooz or innovelli.

The Shelly dimmer 2 is great. If it’s a dumb on off switch you can still dim either from the Shelly app (cloud based), the local web interface of the Shelly, or something like home assistant. The Shelly is WiFi based, but it can work just fine even if the WiFi is down and you can tell it to broadcast it’s own network if you want to get to it when the network is down.

Or flash it. Or even use it with the stock firmwhere but firewall off from the Internet so you can only control it with something like the web interface or home assistant.

you might want to look into the Shelly Dimmer 2. It’s a zigbee-compatible smart relay that can be installed behind your existing switches to add dimming functionality. It’s a popular choice for retrofitting smart lighting in homes with existing switches.
