Okay I am a full-time software manager with one of the major software consulting companies.

While I am stationed in Canada as a remote emp, I have been travelling as a digital nomad for quite a while, and it is working out okay with just a openvpn server at my home.

While a few of my friends told me someone working at f b is digital nomading, I am curious as to
How is it going for someone in FAANG doing this …?

I have an offer from FAANG with 1.5X the salary but not sure what kind of employee tracking they use.
My current work laptop does not have GPS and location is only fetched from IP so I am looking okay.

Also, is anyone based in USA doing this?
Apparently it is easy to get I-94 (travel history) if employer has your passport number in US, but rather difficult in Canada since travel history is protected by privacy laws.

To conclude is Digital Nomading okay with Full-time+FAANG+Remote+Canada?
Why or why not?

Every FAANG employee I met nomading did that without telling their boss/employer. Didn’t seem like it was allowed if they had to keep it a secret

I see. That‘s essentially what I do, I always bring my working laptop, my gaming laptop and a 3rd garbage laptop which has the essentials on it. I shoudn‘t really work on it for legal reasons but so far no one complained. If my laptop breaks I have to fly from Bali to germany and ideally they shoudn‘t even notice - so that‘s a bit more complex. But to any other major city in the world would be great. I mean if your laptop randomly breaks in the middle of the day you would be in singapore in the evening. If you work at home in your office city and break your laptop in a bike accident or something it would be still pretty reasonable to come a couple of hours later or even early in the next morning, right?

wow I am surprised Apple allow this? I thought the only remote company in FANG now is Microsoft… lucky you are!

Totally dependent on your org and on your manager. Sometimes they don’t care, other times they turn a blind eye, other times it’s a big deal. The trend is moving towards RTO so don’t get your hopes up. I left a FAANG company specifically for that reason.
