Hey all,

This is the place where you can share your ideas, improvements, whishes or general feedback regarding this community.

Update 1

the people here have agreed to dedicate this community to the general discussion of minimalism.

I’m trying to make everything as transparent and democratic as possible so you can really harness the freedom of the decentralized internet with its main strength: the community.

    Hello,

I would suggest to have two communities

    • one with the minimalist aesthetic
    • one for the minimalist lifestyle

Those contents are quite different, and if there is an overlap people can always subscribe to both.

I don’t know how to name them to avoid confusion though.

I see your point, so let me explain my thoughts behind the creation of this community.

I created it as an open space, an agora, for general discussions about minimalism. I have been careful not to dictate a style to the community, as I see the added value and relevance in both types of topics. I have come to the conclusion that it is the focus that distinguishes a simple picture post from an enriching contribution.

My suggestion would therefore be to say that pictures may not be posted alone but always with a text explaining why the user has posted this picture and why he thinks it is interesting/relevant. In addition, flairs, which are supposedly coming soon, could help to further differentiate between the types of post and perhaps even filter them.

I was thinking minimalist art should be its own thing. Aesthetics is more nuanced and can certainly be included with the lifestyle.

Right, so you are making the distinction between art and aesthetics. Where would you draw the line though? Isn’t it all about exchanging views over minimalist topics? I personally can imagine somebody using a piece of art to underpin a certain sentiment or a thought. However it shouldn’t be a simple image post but rather an exposé that may also contain an image.

In my humble opinion we should not focus on the style or type of content posted but rather on the message itself and the value it adds to the discussion. It may even be one sentence but if it is good and makes you think I see no necessity in banning it. I stand for a holistic and general approach that addresses all types of content equally. Liek this we can guarantee that any type of content posted here stays constructive and interesting.

          So my proposal is:

          • This community - for the lifestyle and some general discussions about the spirit of minimalism
          • An art community - for the discussions about the art styles themself

Oh hey, its you! Nice to have you here too. I see potential for the minimalism community on both reddit and lemmy. As I’ve seen from the information thread on the subreddit, most are unaffected by the API changes and don’t really care much. However, reddit’s actions, and especially the CEO’s, show that they care very little about the community and are mainly in it for the money. This is highly dangerous for a forum that lives solely from the contributions of the community. Lemmy offers a resistant and open alternative to this.

I would therefore suggest that the community here on lemmy will be for those who have already migrated or are still looking for an alternative and as a fallback solution if something even worse should happen on reddit.

My personal ambition here on lemmy is to take full advantage of this freedom and create an extremely user-centred environment. For the moderation and to get this community running a bit, I still need a little support. So if you feel like it, I can make you a mod here, without any obligations, except of course to serve the community ;) If you want to support my effort, you can make a note on the subreddit about this second community (https://lemmy.world/c/minimalism) for those who are interested…

In any case, I am very much looking forward to a great collaboration with the community and with you!
