Hello, what are some of the items you cannot live without as well as those that are essential to having a pleasant digital nomad experience.
Thank you :)
Apple AirTags
Portable monitor, a real mouse and a mouse pad.
What about using AR to replace the monitor? I’ve been looking forward to trying this out
For Latin America I would say a Grayl water filter bottle is a must-have. Unfortunately I lost mine on the way home after my first trip with it, but I immediately bought another one. It’s $100, but definitely worth it when tap water isn’t safe. Also great for long walks during the day that may have a waterfall/stream.
Backup cell phone
Knife Sharpener https://www.sharpal.com/product/6-in-1-knife-sharpener-survival-tool/
Can a rock or another piece of metal work? If it’s a bad knife then i imagine the metal will be softer. You’d need one for high quality stuff like Damascus steel of course. You might know more about knives than me tho
I just carry a good knife instead. I’ve been to AirBnB that didn’t even have a knife…
17" laptop… So many hours in front of the screen. Bigger has really helped to make it enjoyable.
MacBook Air
Yoga mat
USA Passport
Must haves…
- wifi
- power cord adapter
- credit card that allows you to take out cash.
Anything else is either nice to have or completely unnecessary.
Some ideas that aren’t going to be as common:
Electronics friendly wet wipes - you will get gunk on your tech
Couple ziploc freezer bags - water proof and water resistant are buzz words when the water apocalypse hits and you’re an hour away from shelter
Couple of those moisture sucking packets that come in everything
Bathroom stall and hotel door lock gadget
Golf ball sized portion of Earthquake/Museum putty - doesn’t leave residue and is a sanity lifesaver for uneven cafe tables when you’re trying to work
What’s the lock gadget?
Haha I just use paper for uneven tables
The lock gadget for bathrooms replaces the inevitable missing lock on a stall so you can go without holding the door closed while sitting there.
For hotel doors, it locks the door from the inside preventing anybody with a key or even brute force with some of models from getting in. A woman I met years ago showed me one she uses and recounted a horror story. I bring one with me now and recommend them to all travellers.
My waschii
Fast, high capacity portable battery (like this Anker)
Any good portable stands for a standing desk I can put in my checked bag? Otherwise, I’ll try to find boxes. Weight isn’t an issue, just needs to pack down correctly.
-
Travel rewards card with free withdrawals/international transactions + a backup such as wise.
-
Plug adaptor + small lightweight power bank
-
eSim
-
money

Someone no one had mentioned yet. Bluetooth RGB lights. I always bring a couple 50w RGBW flood lights and a few RGBW light bulbs that can be controlled via Bluetooth without a hub.
Good lighting transforms a place, especially if they have those horrid low CRI white medical white lights.
Livin like Larry 💪
I’m still amazed at seeing people travelling with MacBook chargers
Get a 65-100w gan universal travel adapter, it’s the only charger you will ever need.
Also get a 2m usb c cable plus a 1m extension in case there’s an awkward positioning in a hotel or coffee shop of the mains adapter
Anker has a 100w charger+5 foot cable for $20 on Amazon as a Black Friday deal! Anker is top notch!
You don’t want that, you want a universal travel adapter that looks like this

Oh nice never knew about these
People who buys Mac aren’t exactly tech savvy haha
Haha yeah honestly I’ve never known about this 😂
Literally most silicon valley programmers use Mac…
Only because our employers issue them to us, not because they’re the best. Personally would prefer a Linux workstation …
Nomadlist.com is super handy on safe places, and all the knowledge (drinking water, avg airbnb price, avg coffee price, taxi company, etc).
