That’s ridiculous, I’m not a Ronaldo fanboy by any means but he and Messi are equally influential. Just because a bunch of countries in South America are obsessed with him doesn’t deny all of Asia being obsessed with Ronaldo.

And if you are talking about influence, not one player in the world of football has been more influential than Johan Cruyff. Teams are still playing in ways based on his ideas.

OK, for the sake of discussion, and this is something I’ve thought about: can we really say Messi is all that influential if what he can do cannot be replicated by anyone else? Not just the level of his individual skills, but having so many and how he combines them.
